About The Highway Mail
From a small eight page publication in February 1949, the Highway Mail has become the leading source of news and events in the area it helped define as the Highway.
The Highway Mail was based on the Rotary objective of service to others and after 65 years it still holds true to that ethos.
The Highway Mail newspaper has become a familiar friend in homes and businesses across the area from Botha’s Hill to Sherwood, taking in New Germany, Westville, Kloof, Hillcrest, Pinetown, It carries a variety of news, from civic affairs, crime reports, social news, readers’ letters, sport, entertainment and comprehensive coverage of local schools. Service clubs, such as Rotary and Lions, as well as animal welfare organisations use the columns of this newspaper to tell the community of their successes and their needs.
What makes the Highway Mail and its sister newspapers a cut above the rest is that our news is local, about local people, local events and local concerns. It is rooted in the community and research indicates that the newspaper, being weekly, has a shelf life in households for the entire week. This is as opposed to a daily newspaper which has a lifespan of a few hours. It is read by the primary decision makers and the teenagers, the pre-teens and the domestic help.
But it is not only the editorial pages which are avidly awaited. Breadwinners and key decision makers are keen readers of the advertising content, especially in a difficult economic climate. Housewives look for advertised bargains at supermarkets and compare prices before drawing up the weekly shopping list. Perhaps you need a hearing aid, meat for Sunday roast, fresh veggies, accommodation for an elderly relative, a foot massage, a new fridge or a new car, you are sure to find what you are looking for among the display advertisements of the Highway Mail.
Classifieds has a wealth of items for sale as well as the details of local service providers such as plumbers and electricians and handymen and landscapers. If you are looking for care givers, dressmakers, pool cleaners, lifts and taxis, classifieds is the place where you will find them, and a lot more too.
Distribution of the Highway Mail Newspaper
50 773 Copies distributed weekly on Wednesday.
